Guide to Manchester

Manchester. Capital of the North! The great city that brought us Oasis, The Hacienda, two premiership football clubs and Mick Hucknall. Hurrah!!

Whether you're looking for a city centre pad in the thick of the action, or a crib in the leafy tranquil suburbs, Manchester has it all.
Having been relocated to Manchester with work, Yourshack was ideal for me.

Deansgate
The Deansgate is the point in Manchester where work meets pleasure. Home to Manchester Evening News, The Guardian and The Royal Bank Of Scotland building, there's some serious industry going down in this part of the city. But what's the use of working hard if you can't play hard? The Deansgate area also features a multitude of pubs and bars, such as The Living Room, Revolution, and the record breaking sized Moon Under Water pub. Other features include a House Of Fraser department store, the John Rylands library and the Hilton's Beetham Tower.

The Northern Quarter, or NQ, as the cool kids call it, is Manchester's alternative culture capital. Famously populated by independent cafes, bars and shops, the Northern Quarter is a splash of real colour on the Mancunian landscape. Lovers of vintage clothing will be kept happy by Affleck's Palace and a string of thrift-stores on Oldham Street. Music lovers and DJ's alike are fully catered for with a spread of records stores including Eastern Bloc, Piccadilly Records, Fat City and Vinyl Exchange. And if you fancy hanging out in a bar, there's more than a few to take your pick from, including Common, Trof, Bluu Bar and Socia Rehab. With stats like these it's easy to see why the Northern Quarter is steadily becoming one of the most desirable places to reside in Manchester.

Formerly the rather grim Salford Docks, Salford Quays is now one of the nicest places you can live in Manchester. You're likely to spot a soap star or two tottering to and from their luxury apartment around here; but here's the thing, you can have one too! Very slightly out of the city centre, excellent transport links ensure you're never more than a few minutes out of town. Home to the world famous Lowry Theatre and Lowry Outlet Mall, Salford Quays also hosts the main offices and studios to several radio stations, including XFM, Smooth Radio, and Century FM. Didsbury is a lovely part of town for those who like their leafy suburbs with a bit of a buzz. Home to the expansive Didsbury Park and award-winning gastropubs such as The Didsbury & The Metropolitan, this really is a great place to kick back and socialize. The Didsbury Village is also famous for it's continental cafe culture; a delicious strip of bars, cafes and delicatessens. The sensible ones among us will also be happy to know that Didsbury has one of the lowest rates of unemployment in the country. The travel links are also excellent; minutes away from the M60 ring road and Manchest Airport; buses are also cheap and plentiful, with routes into the Manchester city centre, Trafford Centre and Northernden. West Didsbury is just around the corner too, which offers more options for lounging like a pussycat!

Experience live music and an ambient atmosphere at Silver Apples or the Folk Cafe Bar, them head to M20 Bar or One Lounge. West Didsbury is also a great place to eat out, for Pan-Asian look no further than Cachumba and for Modern British, Mark Ramsden's Rhubarb. Oh, and by the way, there's a Cinema, Bowling Alley & Laserquest just around the corner in Parrs Wood; toot toot!
